Have fun with a new word each day. I'll choose a word. You make up a meaning.

Pellicle
A pellicle is a thin membrane, skin or film. Another incredible fact that I've completely missed all these years. However, it was another great day for invented meanings, particularly that of The Mad Fishicist. No competition there, TMF!
A "pellicle" is a procedure for solving math problems; specifically, you cube the third partial derivative of the cosine of theta with respect to time.
A pellicle is a long hair that grows out of a mole. I'm sure we ALL know someone with a pellicle - it is usually growing out of a mole on their face or neck. It is very difficult trying to have a conversation with someone with a pellicle, because your eyes can't help but be drawn to the very long hair, and you just can't understand why the person doesn't have a plucking regime to dispense with the pellicle.
Pellicle is a growth on the beak of pelicans. Pelicans live to be about 100 (that's 10 in human years), so pellicles start to show up when the bird is in his/her forties. These can be slightly annoying and not very nice to look at, but are not dangerous to a pelican's health.
A Pellicle is a frozen ice treat that's very popular with children in Nova Scotia. It's shaped like a Pelican and inside the beak pouch is a bubblegum ball.
1. I choose an obscure dictionary word.
2. You invent a wacky meaning and add it as a comment.
3. After a certain time I list the true meaning and choose a winner for the invented meaning.
There are no prizes, just lots of fun!
Remember, children use this site too.
I am a children's author who has had a handful of books published by trade publishers. They're in book shops and libraries. I've also had a sackful of books published by educational publishers. These are mainly found in schools. I love words and that's why I invented this blog site.

The horn of a unicorn is called a pellicle.

Commonly known as "The Thing," Pellicle is an obscure constellation that consists of eight stars in the shape of nothing.
As one of the seven signs in the Laplander zodiac (March 18th through May 6th), Pellicle is regarded as a symbol for virility in the Northern climes.
Pellicletians are known for strength through adversity, quick decision making, and the smell of butter.
Best with Oxters (September 3rd through the 8th), Pellicletians are encouraged to avoid Muffineers (September 9th to year's end).
Tonight: Try a new restaurant with a friend, but go directly home and curl up with a favorite book. Then take a shower.
OK, I can't come close to topping the Mad Fishicist's definition, so I'm not even going to try. Wow.
I was thinking along Vicki B's definition anyway...
Okay, TMF, what are you trying to do? Make this hard? Sheeez.
Here goes nothin'!
Pellicle: Penguin droppings.
Take that RealityJunkie and TMF!
