Banting

Banting is the treatment of obesity by the removal of sugar, starch and fat from the diet. Sounds tricky. The invented meanings were interesting and well thought out and Sonnjea B's was the winner on the poll. Great work, Sonnjea.

A banting is any sudden (generally momentary) reversal of behavior.

An example would be a raucous party, where there is a relatively constant dull roar... and then there's a banting, when room goes suddenly silent, just for a few seconds.

Or Word Imp had been generating many definitions per day, except for the banting at Solifidian.

The synthetic material, rayon, is produced by spinning fiber from a cellulose solution. But first, an impurity, "perbant", is removed by boiling the cellulose until the perbant rises to the top, and is then skimmed off. This process is called "banting".

Banting is when you are pretending to me mad or annoyed at someone, but you aren't really mad or annoyed with them. For example, every now and then i have a banting episode at my husband about something he does that is annoying, knowing full well that he will never change. But just need to let off steam and "bant" about it for a while.

A banting is a "senior moment", where you forget what you're going to say, can't remember where your shoes are etc.

Melissa had a bit of a banting when she got home from the office and it was only the next morning that she was able to locate her car keys in the microwave oven.

Banting - Noun

Course stuffing or padding used to fill-out fabric set design pieces in theater or movie production. Usually made of steel wool or heavy fiber glass.

When the grip and the best boy jokingly suggested to the costuming department that they fill out Gwyneth's blouse with banting, they did not know the starlet was right behind them. When they were promptly booted from the set by security, they wished the banting had been stuffed in their own trousers.
