Have fun with a new word each day. I'll choose a word. You make up a meaning.

Stactometer
A stactometer is actually a tube for measuring liquid in drops. Fascinating. I think our invented meanings were a little livelier, don't you? Two winners on the poll again today - which was fair since both meanings had similarities. The honours go to Floribunda and Sonnjea B.
A stactometer is used by supermarket employees to guage how high they can safely stack their special displays.
"When the court heard that the display had been twice the level specified by the stactometer they had no choice but to find him guilty of manslaughter. Mrs Jones was the unfortunate victim, she was suffocated when ten thousand boxes of cereal fell on top of her"
Of course it is used to measure something. I believe it is the instrument used to measure the length of time a tired mother will let her baby cry in the night before going to rescue her. This is also known as the cryometer or the shhometer.
As a side note, I must say I LOVE wordimp. I think you are a genius. Maybe I should have said that stactometer is the measure of how much a person loves wordimp. I would say I would be off the charts.
A Stactometer is indeed a measuring instrument, however it is used to measure the height of a stack of pancakes before it leaves the kitchen and makes it to the cutomer. Pancakes must be of uniform height and diameter, and must therefore pass rigorous measurement before making an appearance in the restaurant.
1. I choose an obscure dictionary word.
2. You invent a wacky meaning and add it as a comment.
3. After a certain time I list the true meaning and choose a winner for the invented meaning.
There are no prizes, just lots of fun!
Remember, children use this site too.
I am a children's author who has had a handful of books published by trade publishers. They're in book shops and libraries. I've also had a sackful of books published by educational publishers. These are mainly found in schools. I love words and that's why I invented this blog site.

It's a high-tech measuring device used by Victoria's Secret employees to determine a woman's bra size.
"Well dear, I'm guessing you're a 34C, but let's see what the old stactometer says."
Ironically, stactometer means immeasurable.
You cannot measure a mother's love for her child. You cannot measure the gift of friendship, time spent together, etc.
The mother's stactometerous kisses and hugs helped still the child's tears.

the measure of time between dental visits
similar to Sonnjea B, but actually a concept developed by junior-high-school boys to rate / comment on the bustiness of the girls...
"whoa, dude -- she just broke the stactometer!"
Thank you, Realityjunkie. I feel so happy that you love the blog as much as I do. It's always nice to receive feedback!
