Beadledom

Beadledom is great. It's my new favourite word. The actual meaning is "stupid officiousness". So now we can actually go around accusing stupidly officious people of beadledom and they'll have no idea what we're on about! The blog meanings were cool too, of course. Sawmaster was the winner on the poll. Another first timer on the blog. Great work!

A beadledom is a church bell of very low pitch.

The pitch is so low that it cannot be heard, but it does make people feel a bit uncomfortable when it is rung.

It is used to encourage people to leave the churchyard quickly after the Sunday services, rather than standing about engaging in sinful gossip.

beadledom -- [pronounced be-addle-dom}is a boring lecture, generally on whatever is your least favorite subject.

"Professor Wrench treated us to a lengthy beadledom about the molecular structure of rubber...)

It's a little known fact, but in the original version of Through the Looking-Glass and what Alice Found There, Caroll had actually named "Tweedledum and Tweedledee" "Beadledum and Beadledee" in order to avoid copyright infringement on a previously published nursery rhyme.

The names were later changed when her publishers got through all of that Mother Goose red tape business.

When an element in a story is altered for fear of being sued, has since been referred to as a "Beadledom" or a "Beadleism" for this reason.

Oops, correction :)

Beadledom describes the annoying drop of sweat that falls off a person's nose when jogging.

"Why did John stop running?" "He couldn't put up with all the beadledom, it was just too annoying."

Beadledom is the state of being bored while doing beadwork. This usually occurs after doing several hours of beadwork with one's children. Beadledom is most likely to occur if one had to play several hours of Monopoly before doing the beadwork.

Beadledom is the name of Jeremy Beadle's (English funny man) country estate. Although not very well known outside of the UK, he still holds cult status in Britain and on weekends and public holidays, busloads of adoring fans can be seen trundling past Beadledom, all trying to catch a glimpse of the Mega Star.

Beadledom
a group or club devoted to beading.

"Mandy is part of that beadledom, not me, I prefer scrapbooking."

I had similar meanings running through with the bead theme.

Okay, this is a new Children's Series book. It starts off with the usual.."Once upon a time, in a land far away called Beadledom..." The story is about a queen who just loved beading and she demanded that all the women work in a beading factory making all kinds of things-jewelery, embroidering beads into fancy clothes, etc. It's not unusual to find some beadwork in a car's interior or in the fabric of furniture. The queen had all her curtains fringed with beads.

Sorry, that was a long one. Should change my meaning of Beadledom to long-winded.

beadledom is when overweight people achieve the optimum weight which enables them to waddle happily from side to side when walking. People who achieve beadledom look like the illustrations from Pickwick Papers - small round faces with cheerful grins , huge middles and thinnish legs that might give way under all that excess weight !
