Dipsomania

Dipsomania is a morbid craving for alcohol. Not something I have a problem with. Nor dips. I wonder what the word is for a morbid craving for chocolate! Interesting meanings on the blog today. Thanks for taking time out from your weekend to participate. Two winners delighted voters today. Congratulations to Calie and Auntibeck.

Dipsomania is one of those rare words that sounds like what it is - an addiction to dips of all kinds. Salsa, guacamole, vegie dip, you name it. A dipsomaniac can't get enough dip. If the chips or other dipping vehicles run out, they'll scoop up dip with their fingers.

They recently began offering help for dipsomaniacs, and now you can find a 12-step program in your neighborhood, where you'll hear members saying, "Hi, I'm Bob and I'm a dipsomaniac."

Dipsomanias are people who are crazy about dips. You can always tell a dipsomania at a party. They are always getting into the dips.

The hostess watched the dipsomania spoon himself more bagel dip, nacho dip, french onion dip, and taco dip while piling the plate with bagels, potato chips, and tortilla chips.

I didn't see Sonnjea's post. I was typing it while she posted it. Sorry. We had similar answers.

Ok, Word Imp you found me out. I most definitely am a reality tv junkie and so I digress to your fabulous definition.
My name is Annie, and I'm a dipsomaniac.

Dipsomania N. slang. - the period in American retail, c. 1988-1995, when virtually every shopping mall was outfitted with a Dippin' Dots ice cream stand. the popularity of the ice cream of the future was off the charts. later the future arrived and slow-churned ice cream was still favored, so Dippin' Dots was replaced by Haggen Daz.

... i also think similarly to you ladies. (at least with the dippingness)

Dipsomania is a dance craze popular in 1940, origin Germany. Hitler's youth called it "dipping." Incorporating the requisite salute into the Western and more modern jitterbug style, the young people would mock salute, and then quickly dip their partner under the saluting arm, thereby "dipping." It became very popular but was short-lived.

Dipsomania (alternative spelling dipsymania) is a new word that had to be invented when the teletubbies hit town. Dipsomania describes Dipsy when he (she?it?) gets very excited and manic, waves his arms around and jumps up and down. Of course there is also pomania, laa-laamania and tinkywinkymania.

Dipsomania was brought on in the 1940's when the Dipso natives were discovered in Africa. Upon their discovery there was a mass pilgrimage by Americans to witness this amazing new people group.
