Piliferous

Piliferous simply means having hair, particularly in the botanical sense. I was thrilled with the number and variety of meanings on the blog today. Weekends traditionally haven't been that busy on the blog, but that all changed today. Well done, everyone. Several new bloggers as well, including Code Cutie who is well named. Coolskool and Madame C were equally well favoured on the poll today. Well done to you both.

It means 'pill bearing' and describes a nurse taking medication to the patients on the ward.

'Matron made her way piliferously down the rows of beds.'

Piliferous is describes a yarn or fabric that is prone to generating pill. (those little balls of fluff that appear on your favourite cardi)

Mary was delighted with how well her handknitted swim suit turned out, however after just one day at the beach she discovered the yarn she had used was particularly piliferous.

A very long pillow intended to be used by two people at the same time, thereby reducing the number of pillow cases that need to be washed and ironed.

"Honey, it's time for bed....will you get that piliferous?"

piliferous: adj.~Actually pronounced using the long i sound. Piliferous refers to the piles of clean and dirty laundry that stack up through the week. More directly to the piles of clothes that we have worn, and are not dirty enough to be in the dirty pile, but we are too lazy to hang back up.

"The building appraiser arrived, and as she wandered through the well kept home, she came accross the master bedroom and was shocked to see the piliferous mess in that room!"

What moms say about their tantrum-throwing offspring:

"Billy is being such a pill!"
"Oh, don't worry, Maddie is very piliferous herself."

Piliferous - adj. Drawn to stealing.

"Walking by the new Mustang at the Ford dealership, Kelly began to feel piliferous."

:D

It is a criminology term. Rather than doing any actual pilfering, piliferous individuals merely stand next to the actual pilferer, grinning nervously and glancing in both directions.

adj.
describes the heady feeling you get after taking a 12 hour cold medicine.

"I hate taking cold medicine, it always makes me feel piliferous."

I was thinking along the lines of theft myself. But most of the time, these words don't mean what I think it does. LOL

Piliferous means fluffy as in piliferous clouds roaming across the sky or piliferous cottonballs or candy cotton.
