Digitigrade

Digitigrade is a synonym for walking on tippy toes. Fancy that! Quite fascinating really, what you learn on when you're just having a bit of fun. Of course I had a good laugh over your excellent invented meanings. Thanks for your continued support. Much appreciated and knowing you're out there helps a lot. Realityjunkie was everyone's favourite on the poll today. Well done, RJ.

Digitigrade was a little known experiment from the Castrol Lubricants company which hit the highstreet in the late 1970's in an attempt to break into the cosmetics/heathcare market.

Initially pitched to compete against Johnsons' hand creams and other dry skin products, "Castrol Digitigrade Hand Oil" was a mixture of high quality mineral oil and pig fat which according to the advertising... "kept your hands slick and silky for up to 10 days with just one application"

Available in scented and unscented versions... ironicaly the unscented version seemed to have a greater appeal, due to its ability to attract men in droves to the women who wore it. this was later attributed to the fact that when left on the skin, it warmed up and gave of a strong smell of Sunday dinner.

Production ceased by 1982 when the company discovered that rogue hormones in the pig fat were starting to promote the growth of bristly hairs on the back of the wearers hands, but the inventor did make a killing by investing heavily in the "Gillette hand razor" company.

Digitigrade is digging with one's fingers. Before cave men used antlers or tools to dig... those early people are referred to as digitigraduate cultures.

It's a method that members of the internet community use to score one another on their Density of Identity Generated Inside The Internet rating. The original name, the Nominal Escapism from Reality Drive, was dropped for reasons unknown...

The digitigrade is a type of grading system used by teachers in the Los Angeles, California area. Digitigrade is based on a weekly count of about 2000 points per week, for every student. If a student receives a score on his/her tests throughout the week that add up to be greater than 2000 they are advanced, if the test scores add up to be right around 2000 they are basic and if they are below they are below basic(which is not good). Trust me on this I would know my dad is a teacher in that area!

A digitigrade is actually a 17th century way of recording the temperature. They used something called digitaritous instead of Celsius and Fahrenheit.

Digitigrade is a made-up word that started as an insult. It originally meant so dumb or backward that you couldn't even count on your fingers. It has since been somewhat mainstreamed as meaning "a little behind."

Digitgrade was first used in the deaf community to show approval or dissaproval. It is either a thumbs up or a thumbs down.
