Have fun with a new word each day. I'll choose a word. You make up a meaning.

Contumacy
Contumacy is obstinate resistance to authority. Sonnjea B's suggestion that contumacy is an affliction suffered by bookworms was the favourite amongst pollsters. Thanks again, Sonnjea!

Contumacy is the english equivalent of de ja vu (is that how you spell it?). You know how sometimes you are doing something, possibly something quite ordinary, then all of a sudden you get that "I've done this before" feeling. Funnily enough, I have had that 2 or 3 times when doing Word Imperfect. Anyway, that's contumacy.
Contumacy is spending too much time with someone. Sometimes it's nice to spend some time apart and appreciate your partner more.
Sometimes if you spend too much time with your best friend or partner, you get that "I need space" feeling.
Example: Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse decided to join separate bowling teams to get out of that contumacy rut. They had more things to talk about, too.
Contumacy has just been newly introduced into the British education curriculum, being taught alongside numeracy and literacy. It aims to teach children about resolving differences peacefully and with diplomacy.
Contumacy is an affliction suffered by people who love to read -- it's the inability to put a book down before you're finished reading it, even when it's 2:30 in the morning and you have to be at work at 7.
Mildred was afraid that Archie had left her stranded at the altar, but he showed up fifteen minutes late and assured her it was only the contumacy that made him tardy, not cold feet.
Contumacy is the art of picking off scabs. People who follow contumacy save the scabs in a jar and take them to meetings and award ceremonies for judging. One special scab looked like Elvis and there was much debate over whether it should be kept by the owner or sold on ebay.
1. I choose an obscure dictionary word.
2. You invent a wacky meaning and add it as a comment.
3. After a certain time I list the true meaning and choose a winner for the invented meaning.
There are no prizes, just lots of fun!
Remember, children use this site too.
I am a children's author who has had a handful of books published by trade publishers. They're in book shops and libraries. I've also had a sackful of books published by educational publishers. These are mainly found in schools. I love words and that's why I invented this blog site.

It's a flower which is like a tulip and only comes in pink and red. It's native to Australia.
