Arsis
In reality, arsis has a very odd meaning. Make of it what you will: originally it was the unaccented or shorter part of the foot of a verse. Now, however, it is the accented or longer part of the foot of a verse. So, somehow, the meaning of arsis has done a complete about turn to mean the opposite of what it meant originally. Very peculiar. The meaning invented by Ponderlicious was the favourite among the voters and, also, much easier to understand.

Arsis - sounds a bit like arses said with a West Country accent. To this, rather childish end, I propose that Arsis is the collective noun for a group of Wurzel fans.
Apologies to those of you who don't know who the Wurzels are, here is the Wikipedia link....

I just like to visit daily to check out the blog cos I love the words you put up and the inventive meanings folks come up with!
Arsis is the son of Adonis. Because all Arsis did most of his young life was galavant, cavort and frolic with attractive daughters of other gods and goddess' he didn't ever make it into the mythology texts. Arsis was very popular with the ladies, as he had a gorgeous body, particularly his um...er..."buns". He eventually settled down with a beautiful girl called Titis, and they faded into obscurity, living happily ever after. Which was far too boring for Greek mythology, so another reason you will never read about him in books.
Arsis is a medical word meaning pruritis (itchy) but on the extreme side. It's enough to make you go, AAARRRGGHH!!!
Arsis is an emotion, similiar to regret, experienced after committing a mild act of public tomfoolery. "Mr.Loren became overwhelmed with arsis after drinking too much winter beer at the German-American club Christmas party which lead him to play the glockenspeil in his union suit."
