Gossoon
A gossoon is a lad, according to my dictionary. Not much more to add except that it's of Anglo-Irish derivation and seems to have some connection with the French garcon. So, my learning continues. Your invented meanings were inventive and lots of fun. Thanks for participating. I always appreciate it, even if I don't say! And congratulations to Loonilidi who beat her rivals on the poll today. Great work LL.

A gossoon is a rare and ancient wind instrument originally invented by goose hunters as a call, but which fell out of favor when it was observed to drive off more geese than it attracted.
A gossoon (sometimes spelt gassoon) is an endangered ape that lives in the rain forests of Brazil. They are very shy and timid and it is not known how many of their species are still alive.

A Gossoon is someone they used to have in a circus to work with the buffoon. They stopped using them once a buffoon and gossoon murdured each other because the circus owners know that enemies would make their act better. But that time it led too far and it was right in front of an audience.

Gossoons were also trained to steal the horses, usually the night before a big battle.
Because of their sneaky reputation they were not well respected, and developed a very ostentatious style of marching on ceremonial occaisions in defiance of their reputation. This is the real origin of the "goose-step".

A gossoon is a recent phenomen created by the amount of traffic now found on motorways/freeways. A 'gossoon traffic jam' is one that doesn't advance for many hours although the reluctant participants continuously expect it to 'gossoon!'

Gossoon - A cross between gossamer (a late season warm spell) and monsoon (high winds and rainfall.) Gossoons are extremely dangerous because the gossamer brings people out into less protected areas, then the monsoon hits before they can find cover.
Gossoon is the term whispered by worn to a frzzle citizens when enduring primary presidential debates week upon week prior to a general election.
"Josselyn began to tire early in the presidential race of the lone female candidate's constant referrals to being the so-called underdog despite being the clear frontrunner and the darling of her party. Muttering under her lips, "go-s-soon, go-s-soon," almost imperceptively at first, Josselyn was literally willing the candidate to go--and soon! Soon, Josselyn was shouting GO-S-SOON, GO-S-SOON, and her firends and neighbors began to chant along with her--GO-S-SOON.:
The term caught on, and well, you know the rest of the story--or do you?
A gossoon is an hourglass-shaped instrument. It has three large holes in one side. To play it, you blow into one of these holes and to make different notes cover one or both of the other holes. A gossoon is not able to produce a very wide range of sounds.
A gossoon is a person of limited intelligence. In olden days he would have been described as the village idiot but gossoon is a semi-scientific term and therefore much more politically correct. Whereas in olden days most gossoons could be seen leaning over a gate with a straw in the mouth. Nowadays they are mostly seen on the rostrum at party political rallies.
Gossoon is the spit produced by a spider (usually a large one) to spin a web. Very often these webs hang across a pathway so that an unsuspecting early morning jogger or walker will run into it, causing great distress and jumping around to brush away the silken threads.
(I hate spiders and just writing this has made me feel quite faint)
When you posted glandiferous means "bearing acorns" I envisioned squirrels carrying acorns in their cheeks. Hehe.
"I was a strapping young gossoon at that time." - James Joyce, Ulysses
