A teapoy, using my alliterative skills, is a tiny three-legged table for tea. It may also have four legs if preferred. So we were on the right track with our invented meanings. Herdingcats is today's winner on the poll with a very descriptive meaning. Well done!

A teapoy is a conical tent-like cover usually decorated with a floral design and used to keep cakes and biscuits fresh at social gatherings thrown by people trying to be "posh".
It originated in Birmingham (actually, it's probably not much seen outside of it) and the word has nothing to do with "tea" - it's simply the brummie pronunciation of "teepee".
Teapoy - is a very short wardrobe for storing T-Shirts as opposed to the tallboy which was for made for general menswear.

All potters that have ever made a teapot know that the teapoy are the little holes they make in the body of the teapot before the spout is attached. The teapoy must be placed to assure that the tea flows from the spout before coming over the lid. It is also of utmost importance to smooth the teapoy so that there are no sharp edges on it which will cut the fingers of the person cleaning the pot!
