Scopula
Those whose invented meanings involved magnifying lenses weren't far from the mark in some ways. You'd certainly need a magnifying glass to see scopula. And you'd need a dead bee. Scopulae (yes, that is the plural) are the small brushlike hairs found on a bee's legs. Not sure I've ever looked for them, but someone obviously did. Presumably, a scopula is one such hair. Magnification required to see that would probably be considerable. Look at all the learning we're doing! Chris is to be congratulated for her wonderful meaning for scopula. Thanks, Chris.

Scopula, as Scoville's Punitive Laxative has become known in medical circles, is prescribed in severe cases of constipation when all other treatments have failed.
In most of these situations, a jalapeño up the bottom is enough to sort out the problem, although in extreme cases doctors have been known to resort to habañero peppers, always with resounding success.
I don't know why Word imp didn't put this on for Hallowe'en since a Scopula is a form of vampire. A lot smaller than the average vampire they sink their fangs into the back of one's knee. They can be killed by feeding them steak as it causes cardiac arrest.
