Logomachy

Logomachy is indeed about words. Several of our word imps took this tack and I enjoyed their invented meanings very much. However, the real meaning of logomachy is a dispute over words or an argument which is based on verbal points. Good to see some new names on the blog today. I hope you join us again soon. Winners on the poll, with a tie for first place, were Thesaurus Rex and Silver_flight. Great work, you two.

Logomachy is Canadian slang for a lumberjack.
These lumberjack girlies always fancy themselves a bit so they thought up what they regarded as a real macho name, only somehow it failed. They are still a load of fairies.

Logomachy is the art of making up meanings for words. From the Greek "logos" = word
"machine" = mechanical labor

"Word Imperfect is the key site for modern logomachy."

Logomachy is the official name for blagging: a common occurrence among essay-writing students whereby a piece of work that comes up short of the word count is filled out with meaningless phrases. Perfecting one's logomachic skills is an art in itself.

You're close, Word Imp.

Logomachy was the name given to the "arms race" in the early 17th century, as European countries vied to keep up with the latest mathematical advances. For a while, the slide rule was a classified military secret.

The reason for all this is that the side whose mathematicians could calculate missile trajectories more quickly and accurately had a great advantage in any battle.

Eventually, all sides got to the same mathematical level, and the military turned its attention to making its weapons more lethal instead.

Logomachy is a competition between two persons for a logo to be used by their companies new product. Or between two companies for the same logo.

Logomachy is the art of log rolling while wearing stilts. It's a lot harder than it looks, which means that it's pretty near impossible. (And don't laugh, those are MACHO stilts!)

A logomachy was one of the very first raincoats designed for walking in the Scottish Highlands. It was very long and designed to cover the bare legs (and other parts) of kilt wearing bagpipers, but was eventually shortened into the more practical 'mac' due to the bagpipers being unable to see their feet and thus tripping over the wild, highland grazing haggis.

logomachy (n)- the proper name for the party Western settlers had while building a log cabin. Rather like a barn raising, only smaller, and with logs. Rather outdated now.

Logomachy is a slang term for something that is just way too big and ugly to fit anywhere. It came from a bastardization of the french phrase "le gran machine" which is what they called their catapults. Have you ever tried to tuck away something as ungainly as a catapult? It wasn't easy back in the days of drafty castles and it's certainly harder now that we all live in cookie cutter houses on postage stamp parcels with tiny "2-car" garages.

A logomachy is a logo that is soon thrown away and made different.

For example , say the words POST OFFICE #3 was written in bold and was italicized, then it was decided that it was to hard to read ,so then it was logomachied into something else.( That means it was then just written in plain old bold).
