Harquebus

A harquebus is a gun. It's an early portable gun which was supported on a kind of tripod. Presumably an improvement on the cannon. Your invented meanings for harquebus were wonderful and two word imps tied for first place on the poll. Congrats to Thinks! and Magdalene for their great meanings.

Harquebus is what happens when you spend half an hour waiting for a bus and then two come along together.

A harquebus is a Dutch method of transport. They are a sort of river bus that takes you along the smaller canals that the larger river busses cannot go.

A harquebus was a silencer used by pirates for thier blunderbuses. "Ay, me hearties, you won't be hearin' me blastin' away at 'em rich varmits wi' me harquebus fitted, Cap'n!"

Harquebus: the cheerful but unpleasant din emanating from drunken carollers weaving their way back from various drinking establishments on Christmas Eve.

A harquebus is someone who goes on and on about something that is dear to their heart (global warming, dumbing down of TV, Iraq war, being a vegan, keeping fit, etc., etc.) and brings up the subject at every opportunity. Though their sentiments may be valid, harquebuses never know when to stop and often bring their listeners to the point of yelling, shut up!

the feeling you get after drinking too much wine and eating too much turkey dinner.

"I feel harquebus tonight, I think I ate too much"

Harquebus is what loved ones do when they are genuinely concerned about you, but just don't know when to stop nagging.
When Fanny got the news about her small, non-life threatening, blood clot, she just couldn't stop the harquebus from family and friends telling her to "take it easy", and "let your husband do all the work".
