Solatium

Solatium is something given as compensation or consolation. Interesting. I hope I remember that, as it could be very impressive in a sentence. There was a wide range of invented meanings today, with the poll winner being Clare. Thanks to everyone who joined in once again.

It is the year 2540. Mankind has reached out beyond our own solar system into the cold reaches of deep space.

However, in order to reach the cold reaches of deep space, some redevelopment work, including spaceway building is necessary. If a star happens to be in the way of such a project, it is towed to what is essentially a retirement home for unwanted suns -- more formally known as a solatium.

Solatium describes the behaviour of people who at the first warm rays of spring sunshine start wearing their summer clothes and rushing out to eat their lunch, pic-nic style, on the nearest square foot of grass.

This is a particularly common phenomenon amoungst office workers in English towns.

The unseasonably warm weather brought on a mass incident of solatium in Milton Keynes, despite being only February.

It's a funeral which is held even though the body of the dead person isn't there because they were lost at sea or something like that.

It's similar to a greenhouse, but it's a place of complete peace. The temperture is just perfect, there's candles, a comfy chair and absolutely no one can bother you there. The sun shines through the leafy trees, you're surround by ferns and other small and large green plants. Grass covers the ground with a pathway to your comfy chair. The walls are made of glass but no one can see in or out. It's like you are in the middle of a forest. You sit in the chair and completely relax, let all worries and stress leave your body. Your mind, body and spirit are healed.

"I'm so overwhelmed, stressed out and I just don't feel well. I need some time in the solatium."

The solatium is a special section of seats in new airplanes. This section is intended for use by very tall and/or very overweight travelers who would otherwise have a difficult time fitting into a regular seat in "coach."

Solatium is when a singer or band has sold the most CDs or albums.

This is better than platium! Only one singer or band can be at a "solatium" status at one time. Only few have achieved this. One went solatium for eight years in a row, only to be bumped off first place by a new artist.

Solatium is the name of a newly discovered gem found deep beneath the earths surface. The name was given to the gem because of its sun-like glow. Very rare indeed....
