Balneology

Balneology is the scientific study of bathing and medicinal springs. I had no idea anyone cared enough to study such a thing. However, as I've been finding out while doing this blog, there's a lot I don't know. There were many well-honed meanings on the blog today. And the honours go to Kathy who got the most votes on the poll. Congratulations Kathy. Play again soon.

Balneology describes anything to do with the science of scales (weighing scales, not fish scales). You may think this is a useless science and profession, but just think - if we didn't have balneologists, the world would be in chaos...imagine a world where scales weren't calibrated correctly. None of our baking would turn out, because we would have no idea if we were weighing correct amounts of ingredients. And we may weigh ourselves and appear to be heavier than we really are. Balneologists work in factories where scales are made. So next time you are at a party and someone tells you they work in the field of balneology, they will be very impressed when you know what they do.

Balneology is the study of scabs.
Most balneologists are small children who devote much of thier time to this study, often when they should be concentrating on something a grown up is saying - like school assembly.

There are many areas of study, when to pull a scab off, how to pick around the sides whithout making the wound bleed. The most devoted are the children who regularly fly over thier bike handlebars to get a chin-scab, the most coveted of scab locations.

There are fewer adult balneologists, mainly because with puberty the intense interest in scabs is transfered to spots.

Balneology is the study of crop-destroying pests and moulds. With so many people interested in eating healthy organic foods these days, the occupation of balneologists is in high demand.

Balneology is the study of belly button piercing. It's a bit like astrology because belly buttons come under different categories and pierce differently. How they pierce differently gives information about the belly button owner.

balneology is the study of underwater motion -- that is, how different fish, crustaceans and mammals move differently under water.

Balneology is the study of balance and harmony in the body, in the mind, and in the universe.

Right now balneolgists are studying different foods and how they can naturally help many disorders either slow down or cure itself. It is better than taking so many medications. It would save on prescriptions and as an added bonus, people will be eating healthier, too. It would be great to take care of any ailment with foods instead of taking a pill.

Balneology is the study of baloney. It is not the study of baloney as a luncheon meat, that which is slathered with mustard and mayonaisse and placed between two slices of bread. Instead, balneology is the study of ridulous and absurd speech and writings, the sort which prompts those in the United States to say to one another, "You are full of baloney."

One who studies balneology is a balneologist.

Balneology is the study of strange people who insist on making up their own definitions for words. There is an entire institute at Johns Hopkins devoted to balneology.
