Have fun with a new word each day. I'll choose a word. You make up a meaning.

Nunatak
Nunatak is an Eskimo word for an isolated peak of rock sticking out above the ice or snow. Sonnjea B's simple entry gained the most votes. I loved it too, Sonnjea.
Some women dispair of ever meeting Mr. Right. Sometimes they have moments when they think about becoming a nun because of it (the nun-attack" moment). (Not all women do, but some do. Those that don't are called "no-nunataks.")
After her blind date with a yet another jerk, Stella gets the "nunatak" and wonders if she should become a nun.
(It's pretty early in the morning and I haven't had my water fix yet. But I am feeling brave so I am going to post this one anyway.)
Nunatak: the passive-agressive practice of asking a subservient person (often an employee) to do a purportedly quick task that will, in fact, take quite a while to complete.
"She was just about to leave for lunch when her boss caught her with a nunatak that prevented her from meeting the rest of the group."
Nunatak is a type of small rodent, it has very soft fur, small round ears and a long tail. It is a field rodent rather than a desert rodent and is very shy, making them very hard to spot.
Nunatak watchers are called Takers and have conventions and swap nunatak spotting stories.
There are many varieties of nunatak including the tabby nunatak, greater nunatak and rarest of all the lesser spotted nantucket nunatak.
It may not be the most original of entries but as soon as I read nunatak I put it next to Nantucket and loved the way it sounded in my head.
A nunatak is a small orange fruit that grows in tropical climes. A distant relative of the loquat, nunataks are prized for the apricot-like orange flesh, and their oil-producing nutlike core.
Nunatak is when a group of religious women called nuns confront the Catholic church about theology and rulings which concern them.
"When the Dominican Sisters, the Poor Clares, the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Sisters of Mercy learned that women were to have diminished roles in the Catholic church, they organized a peaceful -- yet persistent -- nunatak by singing off-key in church choirs around the world."
A variation of nunatak is "nunatek." This is when nuns protest using the internet, blogs and other technology.
Sometimes during the day, I get hit with another definition for the "word of the day." This happens to me a lot. I just don't post another meaning every time this happens.
Here goes...
Nunatak is another word for "guilt trip" or "conscience attack."
Eying the cookie jar, Kourtni grabs a few cookies. Getting a nunatak, she decides it's better to ask permission first. Last time she got caught and Mommy didn't buy cookies for a month.
1. I choose an obscure dictionary word.
2. You invent a wacky meaning and add it as a comment.
3. After a certain time I list the true meaning and choose a winner for the invented meaning.
There are no prizes, just lots of fun!
Remember, children use this site too.
I am a children's author who has had a handful of books published by trade publishers. They're in book shops and libraries. I've also had a sackful of books published by educational publishers. These are mainly found in schools. I love words and that's why I invented this blog site.
