Lucubrate

It seems that lucubrating is something a lot of bloggers are doing right now. It's expressing your meditative thoughts in writing! Fascinating, isn't it? I love learning new stuff. The meaning invented by Odalisque was the favourite on the poll. Well done again, Odalisque.

Lucubrating is something you do to trick people, usually your sister. You ask them a question which has two possible answers. If they say one answer, you say "no that's wrong, it's..." That's how you lucubrate.

To lucubrate something is to remove or clean away any oily or slippery substance. Etymology: Latin, lucidus = clear.

"Sorry, I can't come on a date with you, I have to stay in and lucubrate my turtle tonight."

The word lucubrate has largely fallen into disuse due to the tendency of drunken oil techs to confuse it with the word lubricate, which in 1987 resulted in almost epidemic proportions of over-oiled turtles.

A Lucubrate is a newly discovered species that was found in the depths of Loch Ness. A Lucubrate has a spine in half of its body and is spineless for the other half. This makes it very difficult for this animal to decide whether or not it wants to stand up or lie down.

Lucubrate is a slang word coined by accountants meaning calculate. They use it to make lesser mortals feel decidedly lesser and to cover up their own nerdy number fetishes, they may even feel it makes them sound more exciting and interesting.
Eg. One accountant attempting to chat up a woman in a bar: "Oh yes, lucubrating is my life. Not everyone has the balls to lucubrate, but really what is life without it? "

PS Please note that this is a joke and any offence taken by lucubrators is purely unintentional.
