Radix

A radix is a number or symbol which is the basis of a numeration system. Our decimal system has a radix of 10. Easy! I can remember that. I don't remember learning it in maths though. The meanings invented by silver_flight and duckman both achieved the highest score on the poll. Well done, both of you.

Radix are the clicks and hisses made by radiators in older houses that are often confused with the sound of an intruder or a ghost.

Radix is the brand name of a particularly strong and vicious bleach-cum-scouring cleaner used for getting burnt on grot from the cooker.

It's the female version of a radio, of course! The radix has the exact same outward appearance as an ordinary radio, but switches channels psychically according to your mood, cuts out adverts and other irrelevant rubbish, and doubles as a hoover.

The Radix - would be the 9th radiator in a Roman heating system. The first being radi...second radii etc. The hot water was pumped round the system by a slave on a pedal pump and heated by a bank of Roman candles.

A radix is an aggressive, specially trained member of a police drugs squad, generally found at dawn, truncheoning his way into the home of an unsuspecting South London Rastafarian.

Radix is a fairly new word being used by the new generation. It is a further slangerised (I've created a new word!) term for the already existing slang term 'radical'.

'Radical' became highly popularised by movies such as Point Break, Wayne's World and both Bill & Ted's 2 movies, and is still used today by surfers (not of the internet variety) and skateboarders.

Good, a mathematical one...

The radix is a quantity associated with random walks. In layman's terms, it is the average distance between a hopelessly lost drunk man and home, which is approximately the square root of the distance between the pub and his house.

A radix is a secret group that is up to no good. The word comes from a mid-20th Century gang that conspired gain world domination. Even now, only their first names can be revealed: Robert, Alphonse, Devlin, Isidore, and Xavier. If I told more, we would all be endangered.

radix:
radix is the feeling of euphoria (similar to a sugar high) you get when you are voted to win after your definition on a complex and obscure word no one, except the people who invented it, had ever heard of.

It makes you go out and celebrate with people you hardly know and make them hear over and over how winning this has made your life complete.

Then the next day you wake up with a headache and a tattoo of the word somewhere on your body that you cannot hide (forehead?).

P.S.
The way to prevent this is to hold your breath for 2 minutes for a period of an hour, but... if this happens to you, head bands (a-la 80s Olivia Newton John) are coming back…

radix: a punky radius that refuses to touch the circumference, instead choosing to stray into oblivion.

Radix is the square root of any given radius. This one is true.

Brad invited Beth to St. Martin the night he told her he loved her. He said she would love St. Martin as much as he loved her and that she'd find the vacation spot radix.

Radix = A term that means great, cool, fabulous. The term came into popularity in the 1960s.

Radix is the look that comes over the face of a young person when an older person is talking about something from their youth. I have personally experienced radix when leading the youth at church. I will say something like "that's rad" or "that bites". The young people look quite confused as if I am speaking a different language.
