Grimalkin

A grimalkin is actually an old female cat or, alternatively, a spiteful old woman. Useful! Thanks for your fabulous range of invented meanings for grimalkin. My life as a word imperfect judge is difficult, to say the least. Congratulations to Mandy, who was the winner on the poll today. Great work, Mandy.

A grimalkin is the mischievous sprite who appears when all is quiet to put crumbs in your freshly-made bed, stick dried toothpaste on your clean sink and cover your mirrors and windows with grubby little fingerprints.

And many happy returns too! (Although I suspect I'm a little late, what with the time difference and missing yesterday's word. I hope it was well-celebrated anyway.)

Ditto on the birthday wishes. :)

A grimalkin is the black sheep of the family.

A grimalkin is a particularly spiteful breed of little gnomes who live near the German/Polish border.

They are able to take on other shapes, and particularly ugly old hags have conned handsome princes into marrying them believing that they were beautiful young nymphs.

Hey, I've just seen that I won yesterday! Thanks very much.

Shhh... Grimalkin is the name of an elf, a very grumpy one who does not like to be talked about and whose ire we should try not to incur or we'll be turned into toads.

Grimalkin:

One who is always upset about paying for batteries.

Did you know that the majority of the people who steal batteries are over 70? They are such grimalkins!

I think it's the facial expression worn by fastidious types on entering a 'lived-in' home.

How odd. My partner and I were only this week discussing this delightful word. I'll pretend I don't know the real meaning:-)

A grimalkin is any drinking vessel which you've forgotten and left unwashed. After I returned home from a few days away this week, I found several grimalkins. They were lurking under my bed supporting variously hued layers of mould atop the remains of something that may once have been coffee.

I couldn't believe todays word. Being a Shakespear fan I recognized this word right away. It is the name of The Witches Cat in the play Macbeth.

A grimalkin is a devoted fan of Grimm's Fairy Tales. Grimalkins frequently amass huge collections of memorabilia, including various editions and interpretations, recordings of TV and movie adaptations, toys and figurines, etc., and blame it on having been put under a spell.

Grimalkin is the slang term (named for the Royal family) of a Monagasque Army Walking Stick. If you know the secret, you can make it into a pliers, knife, scissors, toothpick or dart gun. Of interest mostly to tourists.

a grimalkin happens when you are riding your bike ~ as you pick up speed to aid in a steep ascent, the light turns red or a car pulls out or something makes you have to stop right at the bottom of the hill and start the climb with no momentum on your side

as soon as i got to the intersection i hit a grimalkin and almost had to get off and walk up the hill

Happy 48th! I hope it goes well for you (or by the time you read this, went well for you). My wife turns 48 in October.

Grimalkin refers to all who are related to grimy people, but who are not themselves grimy.

Grimalkin - a small green sticky thing that lives between the cracks of sidewalks and sometimes hitches a lift on the bottom of your shoe. It talks about smutty things in a thin oily voice and tries to spoil your day wherever you take it.

Grimalkin (n)- that mysterious stain made of nothing you know of or remember putting on it that suddenly appears on your best item of clothing when you need to wear it for a very important event that thwarts all attempts to get it out.

i.e. Rick wondered if he should just call in sick the day the CEO had a meeting at his office, because his best white shirt had somehow gotten a huge grimalkin on it.

The grimalkin is a small piece of rubber which is used in car engines. Without it the engine will either stop working or explode. Despite its size it's amazingly expensive, and so awkwardly situated that it takes the mechanic a whole day's work to replace.

Grimalkin was the younger brother of Rumpelstiltskin. He never got the hang of spinning hay into gold so did not get a mention in the fairy tale. Probably for the best since his brother tore himself in two when he didn't get what he wanted.

Grimalkin. Hmm. Words or sounds that mean a person is still thinking about their answer to a question, or their next comment. uhh. Often used in conjunction with each other to, um, uhh, give maximum time for thought without any interruptions.

Max wanted to voice his opinion on the matter at hand, but Krista was filling every available space with grimalkins so he kept quiet.

Grimalkin: Grimalkin was the original last name of the Grimm Brothers. They changed their name because they thought it was too long... and alkin in German means feces (poop).

A grimalkin is any mole that has dark hairs growing out of it. Gross, but true.

Delia did her best to help the woman at her shop counter but the hideous grimalkin on her customer's chin made it nearly impossible to stay focused on her
merchandise. In her mind she thought,"They don't pay me enough to have to look at something like this... if I ever get such a foul grimalkin I will kill myself!"

A grimalkin is a mischievous elf that likes to short out or blow the fuses on electrical appliances when they are most needed.

Margo had to go on her blind date with frizzy hair because her hair dryer suddenly quit on her.

A Grimalkin is a term familiar to casting directors and agents here in Hollywood. It was first coined by a casting director working with a teenaged Macaulay Culkin. He was going through a goth stage, you remember soon after he made The Good Son. His emotional outbursts and dark moods, gothic style attire and all around bad attitude got him the nickname “Grimulkin.” The term was synonymous with Macaulay and followed him through the 90’s into the 2000’s. It has now become an industry term, “Grimalkin.” The agents of any child/ teen actors who exhibit the goth/emotional, grim style are asked to print Grimalkin on their contract. This will warn possible casting directors and crew what they may be in for when working with the actor.

Grimalkin is a portmanteau - comes from Grim and "Malkin" (Hindi for Madam or employer). Grimalkin is an abusive, female employer.

Just checked on the fairy tale and it was straw that was spun into gold, not hay. Apologies Rumpel.

Happy Birthday from the Welsh National Eisteddfod and the brief moment I have on the web!

A Grimalkin is a crumpled and/or discarded beer can, bottle, or cup which still contains the spirit of the spirits and the stories of its previous owner.

We've been picking up Grimalkins on the Youth Field all week, and boy do they have stories to tell. Jeepers! Strange work for a pastor and his church members! ;-)

Grimalkin is toejam and belly button lint and ear wax—collected bodily scuz. Nasty habit, but some people save it, like in a little jar, and especially in the Middle Ages they did that, because they didn't have TV or radio or the internet.
