Bittock

Well, the real meaning for bittock was much easier than any of us probably imagined. It's a little bit. That will come in very handy when, on the odd occasion, I want only a small amount of something. It will be fun to ask for a bittock, please. I hope you'll find the word equally as useful. The meaning invented by Lorenzothellama was the favourite on the poll today. Great work!

A bittock is a maritime boring creature i.e. it bores holes, it's not uninteresting. Its normal habitat is soft mudstone but it can also bore holes into the piles of piers and other submerged structures, which makes it a nuisance in the places where it lives.

Bittock is a plant, the leaves and stem of which have a very sharp taste, and have been used by herbalists for centuries as an emetic.

Country folk make bittock wine, which is something of an acquired taste, and is used as a post-prandial alternative to port. It's appearance at dinner parties sends the townie guests scurrying home, allowing the farmers to discuss rural matters without fear of alarming (or revolting) the others.

A bittock is a very important piece of nautical equipment.

It is essential that the bittock is kept well greased and in tiptop condition otherwise the lazy jack will entangle the mainbrace, the grimble will fall athwarts, the back strap will end up on the beam ends which will cause the anchor ball to drop through the scuppers.

Although the common expression is 'I like the cut of his jib' a more unusual expression is 'His bittocks are hanging well'.

A bittock is a gauge used when drilling rock in preparation for blasting with plastic explosives. The bittock reveals the density of the rock being drilled. It sits behind the drill bit reading the vibrations and calculates density. Really, it does...

Bittock is the state of a binary digit (BIT - used by computers as the most basic unit of information) when the BIT has a positive value. If the BIT has a negative value, its state is deemed to be bittick.

A bittock is the chunking sound made by your steed when her head is tossed and the bit rattles against her teeth. A foaming bittock is heard and seen when you have let her graze whilst the bit is between her teeth, always slightly green, nasty should it be tossed into the air and land on one's face or ratcatcher. A bittock is usually as a sign of high spirits among mares.

Bittock (n)- that one tiny piece of food that simply cannot be dislodged from between your teeth. It is very annoying and can result in great embarrassment when in the front of the mouth, especially between the front teeth.
