Bedlamite
A bedlamite is a lunatic. Another amazing fact for me to tuck away into my overworked memory banks. The invented meanings were far from lunatic, in the main, and the best one was suggested by Thinks! Obviously a well named blogger.
Bedlamite (n.) - the small screw or fixing which you least expect to be holding everything else together. Found in most electrical goods and mechanical items. Undoing the bedlamite results in all the other small components flying across the room in different directions so you don't know how they all fit back together and is the cause of bedlam.
Bedlamite is made by inhabitants of the Andes as a by-product from brewing the local fire-water. It has mildly narcotic properties and is given to children from a young age to help them sleep. People not brought up on it can't stand the taste, so locals often mix it into their food to stop hungry climbers stealing it.
Bedlamites are those mischief-makers who, apparently dissatisfied with calm, incite chaos and bedlam wherever they go. Two-year-olds are the most common bedlamites.
Bedlamite is a crystalline mineral formed during the geological compression of amorphous volcanic lava flows over thousands of years. It is essentially barium aluminium sulphate.
Occurring in the rock strata in random locations throughout Western Europe, the British Isles, Iceland, and occasional remote locations in Massachusetts is a geological layer formed by the compression of prehistoric dumping grounds for over-used sleeping gear which has been named Mattress Shale. Radiometric dating has set the age of this stratum approximately during the time of Homo Supinus, and his nearest ancestor Piltdown Man. It is believed that ancient laws forbidding the resale of used mattresses brought about widespread formation of these dumping grounds. In recent years industrious entreprenuers have marketed this solid petrification in such goods as countertops and dinnerware known as Bedlamite.

Bedlamite is a generic term used for biblical icons who survived calamitous, usually fiery, encounters with evil-tendered power. They survived by causing a blazingly dense type of chaos, called bedlam.
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, bedlamites from birth, survived the fiery furnace of Nebuchadnezzar.
A bedlamite is in the same family as a bedbug. It has been found only in Greece and is much harder to get rid of then the normal bedbug. They do not have a cure for Bedlamite bites yet. If you are bitten by a Bedlamite you are kept under strict quarantine for observation and tests... Many tests.
Bedlamite (pronounced bed-lam-i-tee) is a calamity that happens in bed. The term is often used in situations involving water beds or air mattresses and cats.
1. I choose an obscure dictionary word.
2. You invent a wacky meaning and add it as a comment.
3. After a certain time I list the true meaning and choose a winner for the invented meaning.
There are no prizes, just lots of fun!
Remember, children use this site too.
I am a children's author who has had a handful of books published by trade publishers. They're in book shops and libraries. I've also had a sackful of books published by educational publishers. These are mainly found in schools. I love words and that's why I invented this blog site.
