Vambrace

Sometimes a word lends itself particularly well to invented meanings. Vambrace is one of those wonderful words. And the word imps did not let me down. I giggled my way through a particularly busy and frustrating day, so thanks for that. The real meaning of vambrace is useful but pretty ordinary, I'm sorry to say. It's armour for the forearm. Realityjunkie won the battle of the pollsters with her wonderful meaning. Great work again, RJ.

To vambrace (vb) is to briefly greet an acquaintance, often one who you´d rather not have met, before making an excuse to rush off elsewhere.

Example: Paul bumped into his ex coming out of the local pub, they vambraced before Paul declared he had to go and visit his mother who was in bed with yellow fever.

Vambrace. noun. This is any sort of device that will keep vampires at bay i.e. garlic, crucifixes, wooden stakes (or steaks). If you wear a vambrace somewhere upon your person, you will be safe from vampires.

Oh, this a is a species of fish found in very deep lakes north of about 60ยบ latitude. Now extinct in Britain, it lingers on in northern lakes in Norway, Sweden and Finland. Much favoured by the Lapps who catch it through holes cut in the ice and it is a focus in their Winter Solstice celebrations.

Vambrace is the official title of the "man hug" Vambrace involves one arm around the other guys' back in a hug while the other hand is found hitting his back. It's as if to say "I'm hugging you, but I'm still hitting you, afterall, I am a manly man."

A vambrace that acts as a third hand whenever you don't have enough hands to carry everything.

Of course the only problem with a vambrace is that by nature you never do really know when you are going to need a third hand so you people are often found exclaiming;

"oh shoot, I just knew I should have brought my vambrace with me today"

The solution to not having enough hands, Madame C, is to bring one's servants along, and at least one is useful when using a vambrace:

A vambrace is (or was) a portable weather vane (From vane + brac [= arm]). When one's travels, perhaps in pursuit of a fox, or in non-Christian countries, took one out of view of a church, a servant was sent to run to a high spot and hold up the vambrace.

The vambrace | is a puntuation mark used in some of the more obscure dialects of rural Rumania, specifically Transylvania. Its use denotes a response to such conversational gambits as "Did you bring your cross? I just despise stake outs, don't you?"

A vambrace is a device to firmly hold the mouth of a vampire open while dental work is being performed. Like other people, vampires do sometimes need dental work, although they would prefer that this not be known. Unlike other people (well, most other people), vampires cannot resist the temptation to bite the dentist's fingers, and so the vambrace is absolutely required.

vambrace (n) The improvisational, competitive rush to play the last note at the end of the musical performance, often marked by violence or destruction.

vambrace (v) to compete in a vambrace

Since the inception of Jam Bands the vambrace has become a major influence in pop culture. Pete Townsend began his history of smashing guitars, because the drummer finally won the vambrace at the end of Pinball Wizard, and got the last note. He remarked following the event, "That's the last time he'll vambrace me!" (Please note: The previous sentence has been modified to suit the family friendly nature of the audience.)

The Vambrace is a cooking competition in which accomplished chefs try to cook the best veal and lamb dishes in the least amount of time. It takes place in Vermont every spring and there's a long waiting list to be a member of the judging panel, so don't even bother trying.

Vambrace (n):
The brace of ace-pilot status vampire bats who always accompany a bona-fide Vampire out on patrol. They are to a Vamp what the Remora fish are to a shark. They fly about keeping look out alerting their benefactor to any approaching danger whilst he stalks his prey. For this mobile alarm service they get to follow Vamp around wherever he goes and lap up the leftover dregs before they clot.
