Punctum

A punctum is a small speck, spot, which is flat, indented or raised on a surface. I know someone with a punctum in the middle of their dishwasher door. I shall refer to it by its proper name in future. I loved the meanings for punctum from the word imps today. Very innovative and impressive. The Mad Fishicist was the final winner on the poll, after some trouble actually retrieving the poll. Perhaps his meaning sent the poll AWOL. But it's back and that's what matters most. Yay!

Best known from the catholic liturgy: Nomine quando non punctatus est.

In thet context it means "spotless". So a punctum is a spot or blemish. By extension, a "sin".

A punctum (n.) is a rest between meals. In Spain, for example, the punctum can be rather lengthy with lunch normally being eaten around 2pm and dinner at 10pm, thus making a punctum of eight hours. Hobbits however, as LOTR fans will know, are known for very brief punctums.

Punctum (n.): momentary or fleeting loss of memory as in when after purposefully entering a room you come to a halt because you forget what you went in there for.

Shiela had been very busy all morning when an abrupt punctum stopped her dead. Her mind had gone blank.....

er....sorry, what was I saying?

Punctum is a Sanskrit verb and it means to over-eat.

I punctummed on the old aloo saag last night and today I am suffering from my punctumism. If I punctum on some warm water with a dash of lemon, maybe my liver will forgive me my sin of punctumisation.

Punctum is a card game played by expert card sharps and magicians. The only way to win is to cheat, but this must be done without any of the other players noticing.

At the most expert level the game is played without any of the players touching the deck of cards, and the winner is the player who ends up with the Ace of Spades.

Thanks for the win in yesterday's poll. I did a little dance just now when I found out and my husband looked at me and said I was goofy.

(v.)- Also, in Spain, to puncture a body is also to punctum.

Did you know...(Now a days, punctum can also mean punctuation or grammar in English)

Punctum is a mispronunication, especially words with a silent letter.

Mother: A salmon is really pronounced "sa-mon."

Shari, sighing: Why do they put the "l" in there, then?

(Yes, I can laugh at myself!)

Punctum is Latin for point, as in the point of an argument

the punctum is the thick membrane that separates the cranibellum portion of the brain that deals with abstracts such as love, time, mojo, and space from the ceredulla, which deals with concrete concepts like car, jackhammer, dinner, and squirrel. not only is the punctum necessary for an individual's survival, but it is an integral element in the proper functioning of society. the aftereffects of damage to the punctum are manifold, ranging from annoying to severe. people with deviated puncti are always running into things. they also drop fragile things onto hard surfaces. they hate cute things like hedgehogs and baby shoes. and for some reason, they also jerk themselves awake during school or church with loud chortles, gasps, and snorts. perhaps most famously, and most annoying of all, is that sufferers are always late but never in a hurry.

punctum (n): an exact point on the buttocks lacking nerve endings where an injection doesn't hurt.

Though as a qualified phlebotomist, Petra knew how to inflict minimum pain by injecting the punctum only, her days at the HMO-managed hospital left her feeling unsympathetic and cold to the groans that her patients emitted when she prepared the needle.
