Saxatile

If something is saxatile, it's living among rocks - a snippet of information I may well have a use for on my next trip to the beach. Thanks for invented meanings. It's a slow time for blogging over the weekend so I left it on a bit longer. Sonnjea B's invented meaning found favour with the judges. Well done, Sonnjea.

Saxatile is an island near the coast of Spain. The coastal rocks are carved out by the waves in such a way that when the wind blows, it sounds like jazz being played on a saxophone.

A contraction of two words, saxatile resulted from what turned out to be a happy accident at the tile manufacturing plant. A newly-fired batch of beautiful glass tiles was cooling when Lionel, the plant manager's beloved only son, stopped by to play his father the new song he'd learned at his saxophone lesson that day.

Although Lionel was a musical prodigy, he was also a clumsy lad and he dropped his saxophone case onto the tiles, shattering them into pieces. His father instantly appreciated the random beauty of the shards and in a bit of inspired marketing genius, dubbed them Saxatile and charged a premium for them.

Thanks to Lionel, Saxatile is now found in the bathrooms and kitchens of all the famous celebrities.

Saxatile is a groovy decorating style that is characterized by the use of 12-inch squares of shag carpet applied to bathroom walls and kitchen backsplashes.

A saxatile is somebody who is addicted to the saxophone.....they eat, live and breathe saxophone. Saxatiles are so addicted that they permanently have an ipod stuck in their ears listening to saxophone music.
