- I am a children's author who has had a handful of books published by trade publishers. They're in book shops and libraries. I've also had a sackful of books published by educational publishers. These are mainly found in schools. I love words and that's why I invented this blog site.

Pettifogger is such a truly marvelous word that I cannot even imagine hazarding a guess.

Pettifogger is another name for a bee keeper when they smoke the bees so they can collect the honey
a pettifogger is someone who always tries to avoid answering direct questions by changing the subject -- your boss when you ask about your career path with the company; you teenaged child when you ask what he/she has been up to...
Anonymous - thank you for your wonderful comment. If only the rest of the world could discover the blog as you have done! However, in the meantime, I'm pleased you're pleased. On another note, perhaps a "pettifogger" is a person who sexes chickens incorrectly!
Pettifogger is the expression given to women in the 1800s who wore their petticoats so tight that they could barely breathe.
It's something that you spray on your pet to make it white.
In the days of olde when ladies wore dresses with hoops in, doctors would make them use a pettifogger to spray a warm mist under their skirts to prevent infection in the private parts.
