Have fun with a new word each day. I'll choose a word. You make up a meaning.

Rictus
A rictus is the gape of an open mouth. Who knew that? Not me, that's for sure. However, mine's a rictus as I'm up so late watching Titanic on the telly. There was a tie on the voting poll between Sophie 8 and Habermans Habits. Well done, both of you.
Rictus is a cactus that lost all of its sharp pointy things and become smooth and easy to touch. they lose their needles once every two years to gain strength so every other year the desert is full of rictuses instead of cactuses.
Rictus is the time point between the third and fourth gin and tonic, the balancing point where you either go home or stay out and if you stay out the laws of rictus state that it will be a very drunk evening. This is because once you have passed the rictus point you cannot stay out and not have another gin and tonic.
I avoid the rictus point by not having gin and tonics until late in the evening. Even so it can still creep up on you.
Rictus is a term (It has Latin origins meaning "risky business".) given to the wildest, biggest, and longest rollercoaster ever made. It will make it's debute next summer. It is located at Six Flags Great America. This is definitely not for the faint-hearted. It starts off slowly, gaining momentum once it reaches the highest point, then everything's a blur of turns and upside-down spins. I am dizzy just thinking about it.
A rictus was a bit like a discus [a little heavier] but you threw it vertically. They tried it out at the Olympics in 1920 but it killed one of the marshalls and knocked one unconscious so they banned it and destroyed all known rictuses. Or so they thought!!!
1. I choose an obscure dictionary word.
2. You invent a wacky meaning and add it as a comment.
3. After a certain time I list the true meaning and choose a winner for the invented meaning.
There are no prizes, just lots of fun!
Remember, children use this site too.
I am a children's author who has had a handful of books published by trade publishers. They're in book shops and libraries. I've also had a sackful of books published by educational publishers. These are mainly found in schools. I love words and that's why I invented this blog site.

A rictus was a primitive tool used to measure earthquakes...it consisted of a stick and a string. I have no idea how it works.
