Stumer

Dated Thursday October 15 - confusion caused again by time difference.
A stumer is not something you want. Especially not a big one. It's a counterfeit or otherwise worthless note, cheque or coin. Great to know the official name though. Perhaps I would know that already if I had taken up a career in banking. I would also probably be more wealthy. Oh well. I enjoyed your meanings for stumer and am happy to announce Brian o vretanos as the winner on the day. Go Brian.

A stumer is a large bulge often found on trees. They sprout lots of little twiggy bits and look like a hairy wart on the nose of a witch.

A stumer is a kind of muslin bag with a drawstring opening, used by the likes of Mrs Beeton, to make perfectly formed suet puddings, dumplings etc.

Stumer is an bird that's healthy but just not a good example of its breed. A boring bird, or misshapen, or one with ugly colors. Stumers aren't photographed for calendars or painted for bird identification field guides. Poor things. When people are feeding pigeons, the stumers get less attention.

A stumer is used by the farmers here to describe an almost suffocating wave of pungent air full of the scents of agriculture.

"Ee, that were a right stumer!"
