Paterfamilias

The paterfamilias is actually the head of the family. Or so says my dictionary. I enjoyed the variety of meanings suggested by the word imps and was thrilled to see some new names joining in the game too. Great stuff. And great work to realityjunkie for her winning meaning on the poll. Glad you're back!

Paterfamilias is the original board game which is the father of all board games. Well, it was until civilisation and the Roman makers of board games realised that women were the much stronger sex. Then Paterfamilias was quickly outsold by Materfamilias, which went on to become the biggest selling boardgame in Roman history. The modern day Game of Life is loosely based on Materfamilias.

Paterfamilias are a variety of small, creeping rockery plants with bright blue flowers. There is a pink variety called materfamilias and an autumn flowering version called laterfamilias.

Paterfamilias: the tendency for baldness or slapheadedness to be hereditary. The reflected midday sun from the paterfamilias next door, who were enjoying a family get together, started the forest fire.

Paterfamilias (v) To gently rub or pat a friendly dog.

(Oops - I nearly blew the Emunctory one, if you'll pardon the expression.)

Given the longstanding expression 'patter of tiny feet', I believe this is the official name for the pressure young couples endure from (usually older) relations to produce offspring.

Paterfamilias are little families of Paters, a root that grows in clusters in the Central Mexican region of Patersconcia, the taste similar to a leek.

Paterfamilias is a word that describes 2 adult males that are related to one another living in the same household. It usually describes a father and son living together after the son is married with children.

One phenomenon that comes from the paterfamilias is the materenfamilias wherein the mother in law and daughter in law grow quite close and bond over the similarity of the men they are married to.

BTW Glad to see you back word imp. Hadn't checked your site in a long while.
