Diathesis

Diathesis is a predisposition to ill health. Thanks for your meanings. Sandra Dodd got the most votes on the poll, which makes her today's winner. Congrats, SD!

Well, I reckon a diathesis must be a thesis written for a university degree which is full of absolutely meaningless drivel.(Origin; diatribe, verbal diarrhoea Now that last word takes some finding in the dictionary!

Diathesis is the moment a crown or halo or aura appears on one's head, or the moment at which one is beatified or sanctified. It applies by extension to "light-bulb moments." It's a temporary diathesis.

Diathesis is a type of diamond with veins containing a large number of small, dark impurities. These veins sometimes resemble lines of text too small to read, hence the "thesis" ending. This type of diamond is usually not made into jewelry, except sometimes for very inexpensive jewelry, and is mostly put to industrial uses.

Diathesis is when you're playing a game of chess or checkers and you're torn between two equally pointless moves.

Diathesis is a small flower of the carnation variety. Unfortunately it is the only member of this family that smells appalling of rotten meat.

(I'm not stealing AElflaed's definition, we're the same person, and she's got a stupid name and shouldn't be playing this game anyway. Ignore her. Sorry I posted without noticing.)

A diathesis is a written note people leave to themselves on the inside of the front door as a reminder to read the list or note they left themselves on the kitchen noticeboard earlier.

Diathesis. N. the process by which a graduate student, fully entrenched in writing her terminal paper, emotionally and mentally extracts herself from both the topic and rules of English grammar. This extraction sometimes extends into everyday interactions.

"Molly thought her thesis subject was awesome when she began the endeavour in September. By March, however, diathesis had depleted her so that she could no longer see straight, and she merely hoped her writing was coherent."

Patient with diseased thesis needs surgery. Thesis is cut through, removing the diseased half. Operation is successful. Patient goes home with diathesis. A slight tilting to one side upon standing, but otherwise leads a normal half-life.

dia - to pass through as in honey out your bladder when you have diabetes mellitus.
thesis - position.

dia-thesis roughly means to arrange, but generally, diathesis means a predisposition to a particular arrangement, usually an abnormal one and even more usually -- a predisposition to bleeding due to a defect in the coagulation system.

Sorry... This is the actual definition and not parody.

I'm a physician, and in medicine this is EXACTLY the definition we use, and we typically use this word on nearly a daily basis.

Thank you "Anonymous" for a great definition.
