A sporangium is a special case for the production of spores. Thank you all for a wonderfully humorous range of meanings for sporangium today. I was very amused by all of today's contributions. Voting was fervent, with a tie between Osobutterfly and Thesaurus Rex. Well done, both of you.

The sporangium is the chain of department stores in bonnie Scotland where the well kilted scotsman can go to select his sporran. They range from cheap imitation leather with nylon dangly bits through to the most desirable Louis Vitton designer styles with pockets for mobile phones, whiskey money etc.
Suddenly Jimmy caught the sound of distant bagpipes emanating from beneath his large gut. "Ach, that'll be the wife calling," he muttered tapping his blutooth earpiece.
A sporangium was a small very bouyant boat which could be "sailed" on aqueducts. Fruit and veg was either placed in the sporangium or tied to it (if the fruit/veg floated), and by this means the produce could be transported to Rome, or wherever, with the cool water keeping it fresh.
Only larger items such as apples were suitable for this means of transportation - they tried grapes and strawberries, but it caused havoc with their plumbing when loose fruit got stuck in the pipes.
Sporangium is the Latin name for a hallucinogenic toadstool which lowers blood pressure and thins the blood, stopping heart attacks. It was used in the Middle Ages and made Henry VII I stoned for a fortnight after his chest pains.
A sporangium is a safe container for the clinical waste generated by chiropodists. The scrapings of assorted corns and callouses(sporanges) are thus safely disposed of with minimal offence to the general public.
Sporangium is the act of reproducing done by ferns. "The sporangium of ferns is the lowest form of reproduction in the plant kingdom."

That is the truth...
Sporangium: A spotted Orangutan species.
NB: Thanks to everyone for their votes! And I could steal time for a quick meaning!
Magdalene, nice pic there!
The proposed name for the 112th element of the periodic table of elements, which is still awaiting the conferral of an official name. "Spordangium" refers to the fact that Element 112 is found very, very sporadically in nature.

sporangium (n) describes the angst or anguish of a spore drifting for centuries, waiting for a chance encounter to provide the proper environment so it can germinate.
Sporangium is the name given to the scientific research field dedicated to finding(or creating) a word that rhymes with orange. It's named after the closest attempt yet, sporange, which even hardworking wordimperfecters couldn't find a meaning for which society and the Oxford English Dictionary could accept.
Sporangium:
A sports gymnasium catering to people whose favorite color is orange.
They boast of orange carpeting, walls, treadmills, elliptical machines, water… etc.
Please don’t go there by mistake if you are not an "Orangist" because it might make you lose your lunch!
A sporangium is a sponge farm. At the beginning of the last century, when it became too costly and dangerous to dive for sponges, the Greeks came up with the idea of growing sponges on land. Spongea are planted in flooded fields (rather like rice)and within six months they have blossomed into beautiful sponges which are then sold at exhorbitant prices in Harrods, Bloomingdales and other top class department stores.
Sporangium: The study of spores that are formed in horse manure.
Sporangium is the scientific name for baby drool.
I bow to Thesaurus Rex and his most awesome contribution today, and hope to modestly attain half the wit.
Sporangium - a low light growing unit for quickly reproducing, thought manipulating alien spores. Craniums of lawyers, politicians, and chihuahuas make exceptionally good Sporangiums.
I wrote this poem last year, and thought it might go nicely with with Thesaurus Rex's definition.
If my name rhymed with orange
I would be in every poem that speaks
of love or life or death
I’d be likened
to the flame the tiger lily the carrot pulled
from the earth the shock
of colour the sticky-finger-fruit
so much more
tempting than the apple
Yes I would be the one to help
so many poets move from good
to great
Only Leonard would remain unchanged
because somehow he’s managed to make Suzanne
and Marianne rhyme with everything

Sorry, that had nothing to do with Sporangium.
Sporangium is the mating season for ferns. Little is known about the ritual, as ferns are very reserved.
