Jeremiad
A jeremiad is a lamentation or doleful complaint, named for Jeremiah of Biblical fame. Some of your meanings weren't far off the mark today. I really enjoyed reading them and found each one interesting. Thanks for your dedication to the cause. Realityjunkie took all the sympathy and a lot of the votes today. Congratulations for being the winner on the poll, Realityjunkie. Hope it made up for the jeremiad of a day!

Jeremiad is a reference to the poor condition of the pyramids in Egypt. Despite their age some experts believe the crumbling state of the stonework indicates they were jerry-built or built in a makeshift and insubstantial manner.
Hence jerry-built pyramids or jeremiads...and indeed some of the party walls have been found to be made of plasterboard.
Thanks for the 'welkin' vote..28 pumpkins well spent, I say!
A Jeremiad is the supreme pessimist. His cup is always half empty, it will always rain, the train will always be late and ... er ... he is sooooo boring.
Jeremiad - a North American colloquialism for one's employer.
This one is just too easy. Originating from the Creedence Clearwater Revival song, jeremiad means froglike.
A Jeremiad is a cook who uses liberal amounts of sherry in all his/her recipes.
Jeremiad competitions are held nead Christmas time by many catering colleges. The aim is originality, and some of the entries are a little unusual - the Macaroni Cheese Amontillado did not find favour with the judges last year, but they were pleasantly surprised by the Chilli con Carne on a bed of Wild Rice Marinated in Pale Fino.
A jeremiad is someone who has no tact and always blurt things out without thinking. These people tend to be thought of as inconsiderate "jerks".
Jeremiad is the love interest in Margaret Atwood's novel "The Penelopiad." While in some senses it is a re-writing of the story of Odysseus and his wife Penelope, Atwood does centre most of the dramatic scenes around Jeremiad who successfully woos Penelope and all twelve of the maids.
Jeremiad Springfield was the founder of town of Springfield. Famous for his quote, "A Noble Spirit Embiggens the Smallest Man."
A Jeremiad is a group of argumentative participants in a daytime chat show. Most Jeremiads consist of family members who have fallen out and are likely to increase viewing rates due to their pugilistic and potentially violent behaviour. The term originated from the Jerry Springer show.
A jeremiad is a day full of catastrophe. Just when you think nothing worse could possibly happen...it does.
My family had quite the jeremiad yesterday. Their town is surrounded by flames and family members had to be evacuated. Someone else was in an accident. Our grandparents tree was uprooted by a powerful wind and their power went out. Another family member has a terrible toe infection. I would say it was quite the jeremiad.
Jeremiad is probably the biggest bottle of champagne any of us have EVER seen in our lives. So big in fact that when empty actual full scale ships can be placed inside.
