Nonage

Nonage actually describes being under age, a minor or immature. Quite the opposite of some of today's invented meanings. But that's a good thing in my book. I always enjoying perusing the "funnies" I've spawned through this word game. Thanks for the giggles as always. And well done to Irene Grumman, winner on the poll today.

Nonage is your age between the time you were born and your first birth anniversary. So you dont exactly have a number to tell someone when they ask you how old you are. (or you're not old enough to understand the question)

Nonage refers to a person with no useful skill sets or academic training, as in "he's a nonage". Derived from the Latin "nonactius" (often used by Julia to describe her grandson Claudius).

"Nonage" is a reference to the early toddler years when all your child tells you is NO! and shakes their head at all suggestions which are good, such as vegetables, bedtime or giving sweet Aunt Sally a kiss. Sometimes also referred to as "The Terrible Two's".

It's the name given to the common method often used by the retail industry to make prices seem cheaper than they really are, by removing a relatively small amount of money, with the result that the consumer ends up looking at a lot of 9s.

In day-to-day shopping this usually takes the form of a product being £X.99, because the retailer hopes we won't actually twig that it's closer to £Y than £X. Asda has revolutionised this trick by actually taking off 3p instead of 1p, thereby resulting in prices of £X.97.

As a final insult to our intelligence this technique has now been adopted by TV advertisers, who believe that by reciting 'fourteen nine nine five' they can prevent us from the realisation that we're being asked to fork out £15,000.

(Whew!)

The term Nonage is often used by elderly folk during the times where dragons still existed. It is derived from the words None, and Age. It was used as a way to tell people of one's age without insulting him or herself. For example, instead of telling someone that you are 278 years old, you could instead say. "I am currently at a nonage". This would then confuse the questioner and stop him from asking any further questions about the embarassing topic of age.

NOnage: Not going anywhere.

1. Nonage is another term for a ship that is docked. It's not on a voyage, but it's on a break or being temporarily docked, thus: nonage.

2. Can also mean that a family stays home all summer instead of going on a family trip.

(Whew, I was hoping no one would think of that one.)

Nonage - A small, apparently furry, imagined creature usually be-friending small children with idle hands. The nonage appears just at the moment when a parent turns their back and encourages children to do mischievous things. If an adult ever sets eyes on a nonage then the nonage ceases to be.
