Asperity

Asperity seems quite a flexible word. It means roughness, harshness, severity of weather and sharpness of temper. The blog meanings, as always, held my interest all day. Winner on the poll was Orange Strings. Great work, OS.

"ASPERITY"

The part "asper" gives me the feel, that the word would be dealing with "volatiliy".

Or a person who is in an indecisive state of mind......

Hi, Imp lady.
Asperity? Easy one. The condition of having extreme fluidity in the limbs, making snakelike movements as if boneless. e.g. He shows amazing asperity in his new dance routine.

Asperity gazed into the dark, brooding depths of Mr Higson's eyes. They were suddenly so close, so questioning, so, so ...

"Why, Mr Higson" she gasped breathlessly, "you're standing on me bleedin' foot ain'tcha!?"

Pop! the romantic bubble faded into thin air.

It's perfect for a Bronte-esque heroine don't you think? Congrats on making Blogs of Note!

Hi,

This could be acrid aspic jelly or someone who persists in casting aspersions, or it could be a bit of rough justice.

Collins says that it is "roughness or sharpness of temper". I've heard it like "prosperity", so for me "asperity" sounds like success and holiday mood.

Asperity - An overwhelming feeling of helpless compulsion leading to a negative act, almost the opposite of prosperity.

E.g. "In a moment of complete asperity Baxter pushed the accelerator firtmly to the floor and closed his eyes."

I said I'd be back. Keep up the good work. Jas.

Asperity is when one has reached the point where he, she or it is completely free from an irrational fear. (such as a fear of pink elephants messing up one's garden patch or the fear of waking up with more than the correct number of buttocks.)

Eg. Wilbur has has obtained asperity from his fear of green polka-dotted shower caps.

Asperity is a physical and mental condition where the victim suffers from fits of laugher. After the series of laughs which can last up to 2 weeks, the victim normally has severe pains in the abdomen area due to muscle pulls caused by the laughing.

An example would be: Due to his medical condition Chronic Asperity, Johnny has to resort to watching sad movies everyday to keep himself from laughing.

Asperity
[uh-sper-i-tee]
The measurement unit of an asparagus' emotional quotient. The average asperity level of a normal asparagus is 136.53. An emotionally-scarred asparagus may measure anywhere between 1 and 94, depending on how well the asparagus has coped with it's loss.

A person with great asperity is like the spinster-school marm in the old books: someone rather grim and no-nonsense after years of penny-pinching, plain living. Humorless (on the surface) but with great tenacity.

Asperity: Well, I beleive Pirate Jim and the Word Imp know all too well that asperity is intimately related to bleb. It is with a heightened sense of asperity that the accomplished blebber knows which chore to bleb before and after a dinner party, so that he is never held responsible for that assignment again. His innate sense of asperity allows him to bleb the most distainful chores, while leaving the tolerable ones, knowing that he will, inevitably, have to contribute something to the household good.

Asperity is the state of being completely exhausted at the end of a long day, but still having too much to do to be able to rest.

"Judith was so tired after being up since 4 am. She thought she would be able to sit and rest, but her husband reminded her he needed to ice his hurt leg. In sheer asperity, she took a deep breath and headed for the freezer."

Asperity is the perfect balance between hot and cold.

Also known as shower nirvana.

Fred is not a safecracker, so he rarely reaches asperity in the shower. Rather, you will often hear him yelping in pain as he moves the lever between scalding hot and the most recent ice age.

This explains Fred's ruddy countenance.
