Syrinx

Syrinx has a plethora of meanings. You can take your pick - a panpipe, a narrow gallery in an Egyptian tomb, the tube from the throat to the ear drum or the song organ of a bird to name a few. I guess they're all related in some way. However, the invented meanings were actually a lot more interesting - especially that suggested by The Good Woman which won the vote on the poll today. Congratulations!

Syrinx- a product produced in the mid to late nineteen thirties that is exactly like that of a syringe, except named syrinx as not to invade upon copyright laws. Several years later it was simply named syringe because the producers finally realized that there was no harm in using the word syringe on their product.
