A ringent is a term for polite men who open doors, press elevator buttons and allow you to cut in line when you're in a rush. They are on the endangered species list, and as such are so protected you rarely see them any more.

Ringent is somebody who trys to be very stringent about rules and such like, but doesn't actually manage to pull it off. i.e. Kendall was hounding his mother for a snack right before dinnertime, she was trying to be very stringent with the rules and kept saying no. The more she said no, the more insistent Kendall became. In the end stringent, turned to ringent and she gave in, with the proviso of "don't tell your father"
Ringent is another word for mild.
Ringent is the technical term for the center link on a chain (all good chains have odd-numbered links). Also the familiar word for the friend who everyone in a group likes. For instance: Barry hangs out with Kihep who is friends with Siddhartha. Kihep also likes Shawndre who works at the dance studio. Trey is Kihep's little brother who comes along because their mother wouldn't give Kihep the van if he didn't bring Trey along. Annie and Freddie are visiting friends from Kihep's grammar school days. So when Barry, Kihep, Siddhartha, Shawndre, Trey, Annie, and Freddie all go ice skating together, Kihep is the ringent. They all get on fine enough and have even named their group: the Slouchers. But don't let anything happen to Kihep. Without their ringent, the Slouchers are a loose affiliation of acquaintances who rarely make eye contact and never call. But losing Kihep isn't the Slouchers' real undoing.
It's the van.
