Saloop

Saloop is a actually a dubious sounding but apparently nutritious coffee substitute formerly sold at London street stalls. Perhaps the London word imps can enlighten us further. Your invented meanings were interesting and various. Thanks for contributing. Magdalene kept her place on the top seven by winning today's poll. Great work, Magdalene.

Saloop is a Lebonese greeting. It's roughly mean 'may the fleas of a thousand camels nest in your armpits'.

The saloop is an ice dancing move in which one partner is pulled backwards through the legs of the other, then stands, turns, and pulls the first partner through their own legs. Done well, it's beautiful and flowing; done badly, it can be disastrous. Skaters practice together for years before attempting the saloop.

A saloop is a subversive form of a salute given by British army privates when the sargeant major's back is turned. It involves sharply raising the right hand as if to give a formal salute, but instead, the forefinger is inserted into the right nostril.

Saloop is a hanging bird's nest. Nearly every continent has at least one species of bird that builds a hanging nest, and because the birds themselves aren't related, they are identified as a group by their saloops. Saloop-building birds.

Saloop is one of those scatty words invented by songwriters because they couldn't think of anything more sensible to go with the tune. Saloop was made famous by Cher in the 'Saloop Saloop song' formerly recorded as 'It's in his Kiss'.

Dooby Dooby Doo and Lam Bama Lama being other examples...

A saloop is the accumulation of slops from a beer keg. In some sleazy bars and pubs the saloop is served up again to some unsuspecting customer. Some beer drinkers say that the saloop is the best draught of beer you can drink.
