Knurl
A knurl is apparently the knob on a typewriter for turning the platen. My dictionary says it's also a ridge in metalwork although that's not something I can really relate to. I admired the creativity which went into the invented meanings on the blog today. Great work, word imps. And special congrats to Sandra Dodd who's been particularly diligent these last few days and has finally won on the poll. Great work.

Llamas knit and crochet of course.
But Knurl has nothing to do with knitting.
Knurl is a curly, wavy bit in the trunk of a tree that only shows up when it is chopped down. I believe there is also a chocolate bar named after this.
Lorenzo.
As a knitter, I wish that knurl really did mean that. But I'm afraid you're totally wrong.
A knurl is a fairy's pet. It's purry like a cat and fluffy like a dust bunny, but also ferocious and loyal like a dog. Fairies often walk their knurls by attaching a collar and leash made of golden thread.
A knurl is actually one of those old fashioned, little kitchen tools for making butter curls. it has a wooden handle at one end, and a flattish metal scoop with a scalloped edge at the other. Knurls are rarely used these days because posh ladies don't seem to invite the vicar round for tea anymore.
Knurl is last-second spin on a soccer ball during a corner kick:
"The ball knurled into the goal at the last second, just over the goalkeeper's outstretched hands. Victory for Norway!"
Knurl is a verb - it's when a cat purrs very unevenly in little bursts. Knurling is its adjective form.
Verb: Cinnamon, an adorable gingery-brown kitten, spend his days eating, sleeping, mewing, and knurling.
Adjective: Cinnamon's knurling purr gradually put Abbey to sleep.
Knurl is the bone grinding sound an old pair of knees make when kneeling down.
'The baker's gnarled knees knurled and knocked as he knelt with knitted eyebrows to pick up the knob of kneaded doe he'd knocked with his kitchen knife.'

A knurl is the result of a poor furling job. (It can be quite difficult to refurl that which has been unfurled.)
He tried to roll up the poster as neatly and tightly as possible, but it was left in a knurl.
A knurl is akin to the situp. It is a crunch that is performed by placing one's hands behind one's head an bringing the elbows up while simultaneously bringing up the knees and meeting above the torso. Knurl is a contraction originating from the root words "knee" and "curl"
Knurl is a lump in yarn, from sloppy spinning. They're not at all common now that so much yarn is factory made, but when all yarn and thread was made by hand, what the little girls made was more likely to be knurly.
My first thought was similar to bloodboughtme. Sigh.
Okay.
Knurl (pronounced "nurl") is actually a blitz during a football game. The quarterback trick-throws to a team member, only to throw it at another, who runs, in a curly path, zigzaging enough to make a first down. It temporarily confuses the defense with that fancy footwork till they catch on and chase the player down (more like piling up on top of him).
