Puttoo

Puttoo is an Indian fabric made from coarse goat's wool. I loved the meanings for puttoo and offer my heartiest congratulations to Thinks! for another fine winning effort.

We're all familiar with 'atishoo' for that unavoidable, involuntary moment when ones sensitive nasal passages decide to forcibly eject a sneeze, aren't we? (I think it's called onomatopoeia where the word imitates the sound)
Well, a 'puttoo', I'm afraid to say is that same sneezing moment but when you happen to have a mouthful of food. It goes everywhere - there now I've said it!

Phew! Glad you're back Wordimp!

It's a golfing term. Everyone knows what a "put" is; well a puttoo is a sort of bogey on the putting green. It occurs when the ball is so close to the hole that the golfer nonchalantly gives the ball a tap without concentrating properly and it goes wide. That is a puttoo.

Puttoo is a clay-like substance which can be used to make pottery, and can be fired in a kiln. The difference with normal clay, however, is that puttoo is edible. Edible crockery is expected to be the next gastronomic fashion. Diners will pay a fortune to be served empty plates made by the world's greatest chefs - piatto del mare, lancashire hot pot (just the pot of course), to name but two.

A puttoo is someone who is always tidying up and putting things away even though you are still using the thing in question or know exactly where you have left it. I am married to a puttoo who is constantly moving my glasses to a "more logical place" or whisking away my tea cup when there is tea still left in it.

Its a new synonym added in the thesaraus for words like cute, sweet, adorable and the like!
Comparative: Puttooer/ Superlative: Puttooest

E.g.:
"Such a puttoo baby!"
"You are my puttooest friend!"

Thinks! That was perfect!
Maalie, I'm sulking coz you nicked my meaning.

A puttoo is a South Pacific root crop similar to the potato. It was originally called a put, but due to it's incredibly bland and uninteresting flavout it's never eaten alone and must always be served as an addition to a more flavoursome dish. Therefore it came to be known as the put-too.

Puttoo was a term originally applied to model rockets that didn't go off properly and just made some noise and smoke, though sometimes they managed to rise a few feet before falling over. In recent years the usage has expanded to include fireworks and any type of explosive.

Puttoos are a civilian form of the puttees that used to be worn by infantry and cavalry soldiers around the time of the First World War. Puttoos are worn by hikers, mountain climbers, and a variety of horse riders. An important difference is that where puttees were wrapped clockwise around the wearers' lower legs, puttoos are wrapped counter-clockwise.

puttoo (same word for singular or plural) are any type of sandal or soft shoe that causes the wearer to make an annoying shuffling noise as they walk.

"I'm going to toss those puttoo of yours if you don't stop wearing them when we go out together!"

A puttoo is a competitor in a spitting contest. Consequently one never wants to be a puttee.

I think puttoo is someone who puts up with every situation by compromising.
