What a hard choice. There were some excellent meanings for carking, but Realityjunkie had such a warm and fuzzy entry that I just had to choose it.
Here it is: Carking is the sweet sound puppies make while they're sleeping. It's somewhere between a bark and a sigh. I love the sound of carking.

When a dog gets a cold with an associated cough, instead of being able to bark properly, they instead produce a sound that is referred to as carking.
Carking is an unfortunate slang term for dying. If someone is at death's door, they are carking it. If someone has passed through death's door, they have carked it.
Carking is the term used to describe bad car parking. When you see someone who has taken up 2 spaces, or parked so close to the line you can't get out of your vehicle, they have carked.
Carking is the preparation of a wall for painting or wall-papering.
