Hierophant
The real meaning of hierophant (according to my dictionary) is an initiating priest or one who expounds on sacred mysteries. Doesn't mean a heck of a lot to me but I hope it helps someone. Our invented meanings were far easier to digest and much funnier. Well done to you all. Auntibeck received the highest number of votes on the poll. Great work.

Hierophant: pronounced HERO-FANT.
An elephant who demonstrates brave or heroic behavior.
"Horton didn't just hear a Who, he was their hierophant!"
a hierophant is someone who always has to be "top dog" -- he has had more adventurous adventures than you, has a more prestigious job than you, and makes it clear that you'll just never measure up!
It's a rare occurance, but an hierophant is a member of a royal family who is next in line to the throne but has, unfortunately, died before he/she could succeed. No known hierophant has had a coronation due to the difficulty of placing the crown on a phantom.

A hierophant (from the French for yesterday) is one of those grumpy old people who maintain that life was much harder in their day.......They like to moan: "Kids today are so spoiled. I had to work down the mine from dawn until dusk, and that was after I had cleaned out the pigsty and fed the cows and I only had a hot meal once a month....if I was lucky."
Hierophant are most useful. They are self mobile water ejectors. Requiring no more energy to move than occasional directional prods, they will move towards water sources, set themselves up and produce high pressure water ejection at an appropriate target.
You can hire one from your local hire equipment store. Their only recommendation is that you not use them where they must cover a slope of greater than 10degree's. If they should topple they are most difficult to upright again.
A hierophant is usually an obscenely wealthy person who hires a whole host of other people to do the most menial of tasks for them. The average personnel list will include roles such as pot plant waterer, soap buyer, cat brusher, lightbulb changer and sock pairer.
Heirarchically-structured elephant families submit to the eldest male in their herds. The hierophant is the head elephant--the main dude--the queen bee (so-to-speak), the leader, the boss. It's not pretty when he gets mad.
A hierophant is a person that knows all of the answers to all of the questions and insists upon answering everything all of the time.
A hierophant is an elephant that was used to build the pyramids in Egypt
A hierophant (from the word "hie") is a person who is always in a hurry, and usually expects other people to always be in a hurry, too. Hierophants don't always get more work done than other people, but whatever they do they do quickly, even if it's just running back and forth, checking to see if anything's happening yet.

A hierophant is an extinct cat, that probably lived two million years ago, and is one of the ancestors of felix domesticus.
Hierophants fawn over priests. They will do anything priests want them to. It's a danger, sometimes, but altar societies depend on their existence.
