Have fun with a new word each day. I'll choose a word. You make up a meaning.

Sternutative
Sternutative describes something which causes you to sneeze. Useful, I'm sure you'll agree. Thanks for your excellent invented meanings. I enjoyed them very much. Congratulations to Thinks! who has come up trumps again with the voters.
I often get a sternutative sensation when I'm out quietly patrolling other cats' back gardens. It's that feeling you get when you think someone (or an adversary) is surreptitiously following you.
Sternutative describes someones record/cd/music collection that is informed by film scores.
This is slightly different from just buying the soudtrack album, rather, it is when someone who gets the whole Jam back catalogue because Town Called Malice was featured in Billy Elliot.
Sternutative effects come from things being near a heat source, such as a furnace or an engine or boilerroom, and at a very slow rate they change. It happens with wood and plaster and files too near a radiator. It takes years to discover the slow sternutative damage. Librarians and museum curators know it well and are careful.
Sternutative is having the ability to figure out which is the front and which is the back of a ship. This knowledge is particularly useful when on a cruise and you need to find your cabin after having had one glass of vino too many. (Not that I have any experience of this of course).
Sternutative originally referred to a ship that had been poorly loaded and had too much weight in the back, causing the stern to sag. The word has come into somewhat more general usage in the last few decades, though, and can be used for cars and trucks and anything else with an overloaded back-end.

The sternutative is the lowest part of the rib cage on mammals and if you place your fingers on the sternutative ribs and press gently, you will notice that they are slightly flexible. This is to allow for excess food intake.
1. I choose an obscure dictionary word.
2. You invent a wacky meaning and add it as a comment.
3. After a certain time I list the true meaning and choose a winner for the invented meaning.
There are no prizes, just lots of fun!
Remember, children use this site too.
I am a children's author who has had a handful of books published by trade publishers. They're in book shops and libraries. I've also had a sackful of books published by educational publishers. These are mainly found in schools. I love words and that's why I invented this blog site.

To be sternutative is to have a predisposition and inclination toward being serious and punitive.
" The Head Master was sternutative and meaner in his demeanor"
