Rue-raddy

A rue-raddy is handy. It's a belt or rope which you throw over your shoulder to help you drag something along. Not sure if they do that at the Olympics. We're all very excited in New Zealand to have finally won some medals. Go the Kiwis! Hope you're all enjoying the coverage as much as we are. Great work Sandra Dodd! You received the gold medal in today's vote.

At the Beijing Olympics Bird's Nest Stadium there are many thousands of spectators. The 200 Public Conveniences each have a young male or female attendant designated rue-raddy and rue-rassy.
"Excuse prease, must visit rue quickry!"

A rue-daddy is the king of all rue makers (you know that mixture of butter and flour). I think Emeril or Bobby Flay are in the running for a show-down to decide who the best rue-daddy is.

It's a Scooby-Dooism for "Are you ready?"

Back in Shakespeare's day, the plant rue was believed to ward off illness and evil. Thus, a rue-raddy is a good luck or protective charm, such as a rabbit's foot or a four-leaf clover, that has no scientific evidence of being effective.

It is a special form of rock polisher to put a bright shine on curbs (kerbs?) on old cobbled streets in Europe so that people without depth perception will know they are stepping down and will therefore not miss a step and fall on the cobblestones.

PS. I just got sent a link to an article about a man who read the ENTIRE Oxford English Dictionary.
Talk about a word fanatic?!

Livelyclamor, interesting about the dictionary reader. One of my favourite books of all time is by AJ Jacobs. The book is about the time he spent a year reading the whole encyclopaedia. Hilarious and highly recommended. It's either called Mr Know it all or The Know it all or something similar.

A rue-raddy is when your white sauce undergoes a geostrophic event!

It's a form of revenge that involves forcing you to listen to really dreadful music until you're very, very sorry. Apparently Cliff Richard's singles have been used to quite devastating effect...

A Rue-Raddy is an impliment that would be used in the olden days to assist in the gathering of the Rue plant.

The Rue was considered a strange and mystical plant, especially as it has the ability to blister the skin if it came into contact with the plant and then exposed to the sun.
This is where the Rue-raddy came in, it was basicly a pair of shears connected to a bucket suspended below it, the purpose being to snip the stem of the Rue and have it drop into the bucket for collection without ever having to touch it, thereby saving yourself the torment of the nasty sores and skin blisters often affecting Rue gatherers.

Ooh glad to have the Word Imp back and Sandra Dodd, your Scoobydooism made me laugh out loud.

I think that rue-raddy is the new term to describe the work of avant garde fashion designers of Paris.

"Were you at the Obsquillion show yesterday? It was totally rue-raddy"

Rue-raddy is the technical term for burning sauce when cooking. I am actually quite an expert in this field. Some have even called me rue-raddy Annie.

Rue-raddy is a posh expression used when someone thinks they have said something funny and bursts out laughing. No one else thinks what the person has said is funny so this person becomes embarrassed. They use the sentence, "How Rue-raddy of me." This makes situations like this okay.
