Gharry

A gharry is an Indian carriage which is usually horse-drawn and plies for hire. I guess some of the Indian bloggers out there probably knew that one. I particularly liked the meaning suggested by Floribunda and so did the voters. Well done, Floribunda. Welcome back!

Gharry describes the feeling you get way down in the very base of your teeth when someone scratches their nails down a blackboard, or you hear a very high pitched noise.

A Gharry is a creaky ceiling fan - one that goes 'gharry gharry gharry...' instead of 'ghurr ghurr ghurr...'

Gharry is Bharry's twin brother.

Gharry means one of those eerie, dark nights that are inky black-nNot even a star can be found peeking through the thick clouds.

Pooh shivered as he walked home, taking a short-cut through the forest. He heard owls hooting and started to panic as he thought of "lions, tigers, and bears" that may be sleathly watching him. He picked up his pace just enough so anything watching him would not smell his fear. It was just too gharry a night to be out alone.

It is the adjective to describe the sound of the last breath that you take before you die, the name of the last breath being gharr.

When asked how he was Simon, a obsessive hyperchondriac, would often reply, "oh a bit gharry today"

I would like to say that Mr. C came up with this slightly depressing entry.

a gharry is the piece of cloth that's twisted and formed into a circle on top of a (woman's) head and which helps balance the large jug of water she's carrying.
